In perhaps their boldest move yet, the Sugababes‘ latest line-up have poked fun at the brand’s band’s ever-revolving array of faces.
The trio, currently consisting of Jade Ewen, Amelle Berrabah, and Heidi Range, take on the role of dolls on an assembly line in their feature for Fabulous magazine.
Given the public’s response to them as of late, it looks like the creative was right on the money with this one. For, as the strap-line reads, (many are asking) “just who are the Sugababes?”
Needless to say, they have their work cut out for them getting over the ghosts of members past. Are you willing to give the ‘Babes another chance?

Am I willing to give them another chance? One word – no. Musically, they were ahead of their time and so different during their original line-up. They still had vocal chemistry after Siobhan left. And things started going downhill after Mutya left. Keisha’s departure was the nail in the coffin.
The original line-up was natural, organic. That’s what made them stand out in the midst of all the manufactured groups that were popping up here and there at the time. I think people could accept one or two replacements, because we’re human; things happen and people change or want to do something different, whatever. But when the entire group eventually changes and keep the same name, which means keeping the original group’s identity and what they were about, that’s a VERY hard pill to swallow. Going from an ‘organic’ group to a manufactured group is just too unsavoury.
I wish them luck. They’ll need it.

I agree with everything you said and Sugababes 2.0 is one of the best line-ups in general (not just for the Sugababes).When Mutya left I lost all interest in the group because she stood out a lot and her image and voice was perfection next to Heidi’s and Keisha’s.However, the 3rd line-up was such a big fat disaster (in EVERY aspect) that anything would seem better than that.It was just an awkward hot mess and while 4.0. isn’t good compared to 2.0, it seems brilliant compared to 3.0.Keisha could not bring the original Sugababes sound with Change, Catfight and S7 (HER direction), so her departure was by no means the last nail on the coffin for me.These 3 girls can bring more Sugababes flavour than Keisha did when she was the boss.
Maybe, if they bring out good material. I think they should have changed their name, since there is not one original member of the group.
Keisha made this band, and without her they are nothing. I am sure more than half their fanbase have deserted them.
Don’t you think it’s a pattern now, where almost all celebrities promotional pics sort of resembles, if it’s not the covering of one eye, butterflies, baphomet symbols, mickey mouse inspired, destructed mannequins etc. I’m not a conspiracy theorists but it’s just all the same.
You know what, ASAP? Keisha was my favourite. I just think the two of them brought creativity to their music that a lot of pop groups weren’t doing. Bit by bit, their music has become ‘normal’ for want of a better word. Their music used to push the envelope as far as pop groups were concerned. It was edgy. Now their music is ‘meh’. I stopped listening to them after ‘About You Now’, to be honest. That’s when I thought that any girl group could’ve come with this. NO-ONE ELSE could’ve done ‘Overload’, ‘Freak Like Me’, ‘Soul Sound’, ‘Run For Cover’, ‘Red Dress’, ‘Hole In The Head’ and ‘Round Round’. What they do now, I could find elsewhere.

I agree with this one too.AWDF is one of the best pop albums released by a girl group ever!And their visuals were cutting edge as well, especially for the UK’s post-Spice Girls crisis.I stopped giving a damn after AYN too so I can 100% understand where you’re coming from.All I’m saying is that I disagree with you saying that Keisha’s ousting was the last nail on the coffin.She was nothing special from the beginning and that showed because everything from 2004 to 2010 was HER ideas, from Amelle’s image, to the group’s direction, to the co-workers.I miss Mutya a lot and she is truly irreplaceable but Keisha snatched her own wig with ‘Catfights’ and ‘S7’ and her solo music is DIRE!These girls are trying to bring that edginess back and ‘Freedom’ does not overall represent their sound because it’s a buzz single and the label didn’t pay s*** to make it.Nokia paid for the video and the song was written and produced by the label’s team which cost very little money.When they come up with their actual lead single, then their direction will be clearer and I believe in them a lot; much more than I believed in Mrs.Basicness 2008 Keisha.Even Amelle looked a hot burning mess while Keisha was calling the shots.Now it all makes snese and I think a comeback to their special sound is plausible.

@ASAP, you didn’t offend me at all. Everyone is entitled their own opinions. However, I just find it hard to believe that Keisha was behind those crap albums.
Call me petty, but I can’t give those girls a chance as long as they go by that name. I’ve loved the group from Day 1, and they are no longer recognisable to me. If they came out as a totally different group, then fine. But trying to pass themselves off under the guise of the original, edgy line-up is too much for me. If Destiny’s Child were still together and, one by one, each original member was replaced (Beyonce included), I don’t think fans would stick around either. This is because the fans love the individual group members for certain reasons and love the chemistry that the group members have when all come together. You grow up with these people. And when the group is left with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING recognisable from the beginning, they shouldn’t pass themselves off as Sugababes.
Sugababes HAD a unique edgy musical identity. I truly think that the current line-up would’ve found it easier if they started from scratch and come back with a different name for their group. That way, they leave the Sugababes legacy and past behind, and start afresh.

I agree with you and after the dreadful clips of the Sweet 7 era I found it hard to accept them, but they are an amazing girl group and they all can sing, so I just faced them like a new group.It’s Keisha’s fault that Mutya left, which is proven because Keisha called 3.0 the real Sugababes 😕 and she made Amelle re-record EVERYTHING to bury Mutya’s contribution.I kind of remember Keisha bragging about ‘Catfights’ and ‘Sweet 7’ (sorry, no link) and she has yet to backtrack and while I did have my doubts when I heard her solo material I was sure she was the one behind the flops.Just try to give them a chance, because while their image is not yet on point they are VERY capable performing wise even if they’re not that cutting edge.And you have heard nothing from them.The ‘Sweet 7’ era was Keisha’s idea and it was all very americanized and ‘Freedom’ is a buzz track.Just wait for some real taste of 4.0. and if you still can’t connect with them, it’s ok 😎 😉
I like sugababes 4.0 I respect the old members but they do sound good together and jade brings a nice vibe to the group, sweet 7 may have flopped but honestly it was a good album and it was originally suppose to have keisha on it….
tbh i think all the ‘replacement’ have been better then the originals, in the sense that the vocals have been better, looks and personality. the originals all looked like they didnt wanna be there + they all left on there behalf (except keisha) so why do ppl want them back if the reason you b****** left was because of each other? if it didnt happen the first time why try again?
also the new babes wanna be there. they genually wanna continue the name and represent, i do want them to be more urban but they are POP so w.e the music isnt bad it is good but they were even goping that direction with keisha. Sweet 7 would of flopped too even with keisha on it just like Catfights & spotlights did.
JADE, HEIDI, AMELLE wanna be there so therefor people should give them a chance. and they name should stay because they didnt get it like THAT they earned it, heidi also gave them hits and so did amelle. this isnt Destiny’s Child its the sugababes.

I hated the current lineup for booting out Keisha, but seeing as its been 2 years now, I’m sorta over it. 4.0 are a great group and I really don’t have a problem with them being called Sugababes. Lets see, Heidi has been there for 10 years (10 YEARS!!!), Amelle for 5, and Jade for 2. I’ve more or less accepted the lineup changes. Now, if Heidi was to be kicked out, I would probably be done with them. It is sort of hard to understand all the hate directed torwards the girls. I suspect Keisha, and Mutya for that matter, was a real b**** to the other girls. Lets not pretend here. I love Keisha, but I won’t pretend like she was innocent in what happened with the band. Its sort of obvious she is at fault for the breakdown of the group, the only difference with these girls is that they had the courage to carry on where most other groups fall apart. I think Heidi, Amelle, and Jade deserve more credit.
